What Are Therapeutic Drugs and What Are They For?
As an oral surgeon, I want to share with you a question I often get asked. What are therapeutic drugs? Well, therapeutic drugs are pretty straightforward. If you’re asking that question, it’s because you saw it on one of your claim forms or you heard about it mentioned by different doctors. But therapeutic drugs are medications that can be given at the time of a procedure that help improve the long-term outcome and healing of that patient. It’s not directly related to something that they need for that procedure itself. So they’re therapeutic and that they help us improve your postoperative healing, minimize your swelling, or to decrease your risk of nausea. They’re not necessary, but i’ll tell you that without them it sure makes the postoperative phase so much more difficult than it needs to be.
