Is General Anesthesia Necessary?
As an oral surgeon, I want to share with you a question that I often get asked, “Is general anesthesia necessary?” Well, I will tell you that general anesthesia has lots of benefits. The benefit of general anesthesia is that it allows you to be comfortable throughout the entire procedure. It also gives us the ability to do a couple of things. First, it lets us focus on what we’re doing so that we can do it quickly and effortlessly. Second, it allows us the ability to protect the oral structures and anatomy that afterward, nothing was compromised because of something that you were experiencing or because of your inability to be cooperative. So, is general anesthesia important? I think it’s very important based on the type of procedures being done and your personality. It’s an excellent way for us to make sure that we can be the best surgeons we can be, while you can be the best patient you can be.
