Activity

Oral Hygiene

The day after surgery, resume gentle brushing, avoiding the surgical site for one week. Avoid using mouthwashes containing alcohol for one week. Use a warm salt water rinse (4 oz. warm water combined with 1/4 teaspoon of salt) three to four times a day, especially after meals.

Rest

Rest is a very important factor in healing. Over exertion the first three to five days may lead to increased pain or delay in healing. Patients should also refrain from exercise for seven to ten days post surgery.

Smoking

It is highly recommended that patients refrain from smoking or tobacco use for one week following oral surgery. This slows down the healing process.
